Preparation Guide
How to prepare for your portrait session
Creating a powerful image depends not only on the camera but on the preparation. In this guide, we detail everything you need to know to arrive at our Madrid studio with total confidence.
Reading time: 4 minutes
A portrait session is a collaborative process. When a client arrives prepared, the photographer can focus entirely on artistic direction and capturing the subject's essence, reducing stress and optimizing the use of the studio space.
Wardrobe Selection: Colors and Textures
Your clothing communicates who you are before you say a word. For portraits at Batwomanhub, we recommend avoiding excessively loud patterns or very large brand logos, as they distract attention from your face, which is the absolute protagonist of the session.
In the context of current Madrid fashion, neutral tones (gray, beige, navy blue, or white) work exceptionally well with our impulse and constant lighting systems. If you are seeking a corporate portrait, opt for colors that contrast softly with the studio background. Textures, such as linen or fine wool, add depth to the image without creating visual noise.
We suggest bringing at least two outfit options: one formal and one more casual. This allows us to adapt the session based on the light and the energy of the moment. Remember that clothes must be perfectly ironed, as the high resolution of our cameras detects every wrinkle.
Skin Care and Professional Makeup
Studio lighting tends to highlight shine on the skin. Therefore, we recommend natural makeup that unifies the skin tone without creating a "mask" effect. The use of translucent powders is fundamental to avoid unwanted reflections in the T-zone (forehead and nose).
For men, a shave or beard trim the day before is ideal. Avoid trying new cosmetic products or aggressive facial treatments 48 hours before the appointment to prevent allergic reactions or skin irritations that could be difficult to correct even with the support of our retouching specialist.
If you decide to hire an external makeup artist, coordinate their arrival to coincide with the start of your session in our 120 m² studio, ensuring the makeup is fresh at the moment of shooting.
Rest and Hydration: The Invisible Secret
Fatigue is immediately reflected in the eyes and the tension of the facial muscles. To obtain a natural result, it is essential to sleep at least 7 to 8 hours the night before. Exhaustion causes dark circles and a dull look that requires more time in post-production.
Hydration is equally critical. Drinking enough water the day before improves skin elasticity and the natural brightness of the eyes. Avoid excessive salt consumption the night before to prevent fluid retention and facial puffiness, especially in the orbital area.
Psychology and Facial Expression
Many clients feel nervous in front of the camera. This is normal. The key is communication. During the session, our lead photographer will guide you through every pose, but you can help significantly by bringing visual references or a "moodboard" with the style of expression you are looking for (seriousness, approachability, authority, or joy).
Practicing a few soft expressions in front of a mirror helps you identify your "preferred side" and relax your jaw, preventing the face from appearing rigid. Remember that a portrait is a communication tool; think about the message you want to transmit to whoever sees the photo.
Logistics in Madrid Centro
Our studio is located on Calle de Fuencarral, in the heart of the Centro district. Madrid is a vibrant city, but traffic can be unpredictable. To avoid last-minute stress, we recommend using public transport. The Plaza de España Metro stop (Line 10) is the fastest and most efficient option.
If you come by private vehicle, keep in mind that parking in the Fuencarral and Gran Vía area is limited. We suggest arriving 15 minutes early to enter the right mental state before starting the session. Once in the studio, we have a resting area and a dressing room for your convenience.
Final Checklist
To ensure you don't forget anything, we have summarized the key points in the following preparation table:
| Element | Recommended Action | When |
|---|---|---|
| Wardrobe | Ironed and neutral colors | 24h before |
| Hydration | Drink 2L of water | 48h before |
| Rest | Minimum 7-8 hours of sleep | Night before |
| Skin | Gentle cleansing, no new products | 48h before |

Once this preparation is complete, you will be ready to make the most of your portrait photography session. If you have specific questions about wardrobe based on the background we will use, feel free to write us at [email protected].
If in addition to personal portraits you need images for your products, we invite you to read our guide on product shipping and packaging to optimize that process as well.
